Section 4- Dressed for the Occasion
Just like a person gets dressed to go out a hamburger relies
on the dressings to enhance its flavor and appeal. This section will cover the main dressings
that accompany the hamburgers.
- First
the onions need to be caramelized. Get a full onion and cut it once
horizontally and once vertically. This creates 4 sections. Each burger
will use ½ of a section, so this is enough onions for 8 burgers.
- Take a
section and cut across the shorter side. Repeat this for the other
remaining sections.
- Take a
cast iron skillet and warm on high heat. Pour in 1 table spoon extra
virgin olive oil to coat the skillet.
- Once
the skillet is heated place the onion slices into the skillet, making sure
that the slices do not over lap. Reduce the heat to about medium-low and
slowly cook the onions, flipping them every minute or so till they are a
nice golden brown.
- Once
finished take out a plate to place the onions on so they can cool.
- Next
up is the mushrooms. Open a pack of mushrooms and cut them into slices.
- Taking
the cast iron skillet place it onto the stove and warm it on high
heat. Pour 1 tablespoon of extra
virgin olive oil into the skillet to get a nice coating.
- Once
the skillet it hot place the mushroom slices into the skillet and cook for
1-2 minutes on high heat till the bottom is browned. Flip the mushrooms
and cook again for a1- 2 minutes till golden brown. When finished place
the mushrooms on a plate to cool.
- Now
it’s time to cook the bacon. Take
out a non-stick skillet and warm on high heat. Get out the bacon. Each
Burger uses one slice each, so get out as many as burgers you will be
eating.
- Once
the skillet is heated, place the bacon into it and lower the temperature
to the second highest setting. Cook
till the edges start to turn a gold brown and then flip. Let this side
cook till it is a light gold brown. Flip and cook till it is a nice crisp
red brown. Take out of the skillet
and place on a paper towel to drain the grease.
- After
this the lettuce and tomatoes will need to be cut and sliced.
