- Pragmatics
- Michael
Buckhoff's "Pragmatics" self-study exercises (exercises with
answers, some irrelevant to what we have studied [1: 5-8], possibly
lacking sufficient information [1: 10, 12, and 14--see 11 before you
answer--and 1:
15-20--see 9], or asking whether an explicit performative is
direct/indirect; also note that "Assertion" is used for Representative in
exercize set #2)
- Semantics
- Sentence
Relations (Click
"Next Question" when the terms are unfamiliar, and do note that the
first box allows you to scroll to the full question..)
- Syntax
- Basic
exercises in syntax (Ignore the Complementizer Phrases [CP],
which
we did not cover, and note that the system used here does not use AP,
but, rather, attaches Adj directly to the NP.)
- Syntax
Exercises
(This site does use some specifics
our simplified introduction to syntax does not: AUX
[auxiliary] and PRN [pronoun]. You can still get practice recognizing
categories.)
- Morphology
- Phonology
- phonetics
(animated articulations of segments--but do note the symbols are often not the same as the ones we use)
- Phthong
(practice exercises for transcription--note some dialectal differences, e.g., the use of /a/ in cough, etc.)
- Speech
Exercises (The untypeable symbols have been replaced with
letter
combinations)
- Language Variation
- The Neurology of Language
- General Interest
