What are the main attractions in Oman?

Forts :

Forts and castles are considered the most striking cultural landmarks in the sultanate. Those forts and castles used to be defensive bastions or look out points. Also, the administrative and judicial authorities took a place in those forts and castles. Oman had a long history where they fought with many powers who tried to colonize Oman such as Persian and Portuguese powers. But they could not enter Oman. There are more than 500 forts in Oman. The Ministry of Heritage and cultural affairs has started to restore those forts and castles and make them as they used to be. Tourists like to go to those forts to get an idea of the Omani architecture .They can enter those forts mostly for free.  

Souq :

Souq is the traditional Arabic market place. Those souqs can be found in most of the towns in the Sultanate. Omanis always go to those souqs to sell and buy traditional goods such as gold, silver, spicy, and other household goods. You may also find the Omani Khanjar, traditional Omani dagger worn by men, in those souqs. Also, there are specials souqs where people can buy and sell animals, mostly cattle. A lot of tourists always head to those souqs.If a tourist needs any traditional stuff, they would find it in those souqs. The most famous souqs where visitors can go are Nizwa, Muttrah and Senaw souqs.
