Hello from TRW

Hello, my name is Thelma West. My current position is Assistant Professor at the University of Southwestern Louisiana in the Mathematics Department. In 1986, I received my Phd from the University of Houston from Andrew Lelek. My main area of interest in mathematics is Span Theory, an area of Topology. A short description of my research area and some of my publications are given in Resume. Many years before that, I received my M.S.in Mathematics at West Virgina University.

One of my areas of interest is the use of multimedia to relate and explain scientific, technical, and mathematical ideas. Animation, in particular, can be an extremely powerful tool in explaining complicated mathematical concepts. These tools can be helpful at all levels of learning, from kindergarten through the mathematics research level. A good site to visit dealing with education and technology is ETRC

There are now interesting lesson plans and ideas for math classes on the internet. One good site is Mathematics and Science Education. To meet my children and also see my first attempt at mathematics on the internet please visit Fibonacci .
