Its All About The Memories ![]() |
FISH STORIES Any fishing trip is a memorable one, but some are simply unforgettable. I can remember the first time I caught a big bass. I was fishing a little pond in the Mandeville, LA area with a spinner bait. I was about 14yrs old at the time and wasn't used to catching many bass over 2 or 3 LB.. This morning was different. It was about 9:00a.m. and overcast on a warm spring morning. The water was stained a light brownish color with visibility of about 3/4 feet. I had caught a few small fish that morning on a top water bait early and decided to switch to a chartreuse spinner bait to try my luck. After a few casts with nothing, I moved down the bank to a little shallow cove in the corner of the pond. I saw a fish chasing bait fish in there from across the pond and wanted to see if I could finally get the big bite. The first cast gave me nothing. Still optimistic I cast back in the same spot as the previous cast. Sure enough she was there and hungry. She smoked my bait and took off pulling drag and stretching line. After what seamed like an eternal battle, I finally landed the 7.3lb beast that I had been dreaming of. - Trevor Braun ,Lafayette, LA My most recent unforgettable memory on the lake came December 31, 2006, NEW YEARS EVE. The air was cool and wind calm. The water level of the small private lake in Carencro, LA was flooded from the four days of rain that we had. I was very unsure of the fishing but decided to go anyway. After catching several small fish on soft plastics, I switched over to a Rouge. After several casts my patience was wearing off until all of the sudden I felt a huge bite. I set the hook and held on. The 11lb fish came up fighting and shaking her head. as soon as she bit she was gone the hood pulled out of her mouth. Disgusted, I broke my bait out of anger and switched to a crank bait. Less than 30 min later, I had a 6.4lb bass in the boat . - Trevor Braun ,Lafayette, LA |
