DVD and the World Wide Web: A Powerful Platform for Documenting Culture

Presentation to the conference Creole Legacies, Current Status and Future Prospects of Creole Studies Research, October 23-25 in New Orleans, Louisiana, sponsored by the Creole Heritage Center.

Abstract

A number of DVD+Internet projects involving Creole and Zydeco musicians are underway in the School of Music at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

DVD is a rapidly developing technology used on a variety of platforms. The aim of this project is to make productions usable by a range of systems, to speed development time, and to archive material in a form that will be accessible in the future. http://ull.edu/rkw3943/dvd

Robert Willey is in his second year teaching music theory and media at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. He has worked with technology and cultural exchange for ten years: in a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation between California universities and a studio in Buenos Aires, and in Brazil with a Fulbright and as a visiting professor.
