The object of this game is to guess the sequence of four colored pegs the computer has selected at random from the circled colors (circled by a thin white circle) in the right field.

You start by clicking the start button. Then, you fill the holes at the bottom row with different colored pegs by clicking on the color of peg you want to guess, (the sideways peg on top indicates the color of the peg you have currently selected) and then clicking on the hole into which you want to place that color of peg. Each time you have completed a guess for the entire row by placing the last peg into the row (i.e. filled all four holes in that row) the computer will respond by telling you how accurate your guess was by placing white and black pegs into the 4 smaller holes to the right of the row. The computer will give you one peg for each correct color as follows: The computer will give you one black peg for each of the pegs you guessed that is not only part of the correct sequence, but it is also in the right order in the sequence. The computer will give you one white peg for each of the pegs you guessed that is part of the correct sequence, but is not in the correct order in the sequence. You will NOT be informed about which of the colors (pegs) you guessed were correct or incorrect. That's the hard part you will have to figure out for yourself! For example, if the correct sequence you need to guess is blue, red, red, yellow, and you guess yellow, yellow, red, blue, the computer will give you one black peg and two white pegs, because you guessed one color correctly and in the correct order, and two of your colors you guessed are in the final sequence but in the wrong position.

If you haven't managed to guess the sequence by your 8th guess, the computer will reveal it to you and the game ends.

First select which colors you want to play with. (The default set contains blue, green, red and yellow. That's moderately difficult. For obvious reasons you are not allowed to select fewer than two. :-) To choose which colors to use before you start the game, click on a color in the field on the right, which will toggle the thin white circle around it on/off, indicating whether it will be part of the set the computer draws from (a white circle indicates that color is eligible to be included in the correct sequence). Then, once you have selected as many colors as you want to play with (and remember the more colors the more difficult it will be to solve the sequence in only 8 guesses) press 'Start' to begin the game.

In case you wish to start over, just press 'End' to discontinue the game.
