TeachingFeynman once said, “teach how doubt is not to be feared, but welcomed.” Teaching is at its best when it brings students up against difficult issues; the role of chance, the nature of consciousness, the details of computational models, the nature of processing streams in visual cortex. Learning begins when students address these issues personally, through experience, reading and discussion. Different students reach this point over different issues, and in different ways. When I can deliver this opportunity to my students, then my teaching is its most successful. I currently teach introduction to cognitive process and methods of cognitive science at the graduate level, and an honors-level course on autonomous robots.
