These instructions are designed primarily for my male peers who may need to prepare a long sleeved black dress shirt for an occasion, opposed to the expenses of the cleaner's. Understanding how to iron a shirt is not as easy as it may seem from the outset. Ironing methods vary from one item of clothing to the next. This is particularly true in terms of black dress shirts. However, with a few simple instructions, ironing a shirt properly will seem as simple as any other everyday task. The directions I provide are simple enough so that they apply to any make or model of iron. To view a more detailed set of instructions click here. Please check the owner’s manual that came with your iron for specific information (see below).

Before You Start

Here is a complete list of items you will need before you start ironing your shirt:

·      A wrinkled long sleeved black dress shirt.

·    A place to work. It should be big enough for you along with the things listed below. It should have a place to plug in the iron and a fire extinguisher on standby in case of an emergency.

·  Access to a dryer to remove any moisture and remove major wrinkles.

·     An iron to heat and press the shirt.

·    An ironing board to place shirt on and utilize the iron efficiently.

·   A can of starch, preferably the spray, to ensure proper dispensing of the liquid and stiffening of the shirt.

.       A lint roller to remove unwanted particles from shirt.
