How Can ULL Get the Air Force ROTC Program
Started
|
- A wide variety of students would
attend the
University of
Louisiana at Lafayette if it had a ROTC program for the Air Force. ULL
has a ROTC program for the Army but no Air Force.
- The nearest Air Force ROTC program is located in Baton
Rouge at LSU.
- Having an Air Force ROTC program at ULL would allow
students
to attend college at home instead of going to LSU just so that
they
can join the ROTC there.
- This would lead to opportunities for a greater variety
of
Major study areas such as aerospace engineering, aeronautical
engineering, and many more. An increase in the college's course
offerings would help boost attendance numbers.
- Lafayette has an Air Force recruiter's office nearby
which would make the path to getting into the Air Force much simpler.
- It seems logical to have this program, because
Lafayette has
a few high schools that offer junior ROTC. For these students to
continue to pursue that career interest, they must go to college
outside of Lafayette.
- The Air Force ROTC grants admission to only the best
applicants and strives to have the most intelligence in its program.
- Bringing this organization would raise ULL's
standards. The average grade would be a little higher.
- ULL would receive accredation for initiating a program
such as this.
- Having an additional ROTC program may also add
qualifying men to our Ragin Cajun Football Team. These men would be in
good shape and condition to boost the athletics department even more
than it already is.
- The ROTC would be able to provide extra scholarships
for students. Most scholarships pay all of tuition, fees, and books.
This would result in students having more money to pay
for college. It is a good way to reach those who are struggling to pay
for college by themselves.
- While in the ROTC, each participant is granted $150.
This is given to both scholarship recipients and those who do not get
scholarships.
A Few Facts About the ROTC Program:
- 90% of students that are involved with this program
have scholarships by their junior or senior year.
- Upon graduation, every ROTC graduate is guaranteed a
four year job as an officer in the Air Force.
- Women have also been commissioned since 1971 through
ROTC.
- The majority of generals in the Air Force were ROTC
graduates.
- In 2003, ROTC gave 2,397 cadets commission which
represents 60% of all of the Air Force's commissioned officers.
- Graduates in general have a great reputation. Some
companies have preferential hiring programs for many ex-military
officers.

Having covered these facts it is apparent that this
would provide a strong basis for many students. It would also assure
students with job immediately upon graduation.
