The University
of SouthwesternLouisiana is one of ninety-nine colleges / universities
nationwide fundedfor operation of a Ronald E. McNair Post Baccalaureate
Achievement Program. The program is designed to prepare students who meet
certain eligibilityrequirements for graduate school. The ultimate
aim is to assist studentswith preparation for, admission to, and securance
of funding to financegraduate education leading to the doctorate degree.
The McNairScholars Program was founded in 1986 in memory of Dr. Ronald
E. McNair,the physicist/astronaut, who died aboard the Challenger space
shuttle. USL received funding in September, 1992. USL and LSU are
the onlyLouisiana universities conducting McNair programs.
