Since it's conception in 1893, LSU's football program has consistently been one of the most successful programs in the nation. In 114 years of football, LSU has an overall record of 670-374-47 and a bowl game record of 19-17-1, including two national chamionships in 1958 and 2003. LSU has won 12 conference championships in 3 separate conferences: the Southwestern Intercollegiate Athletic Association (SIAA), the Southern Conference, and the Southeastern Conference (SEC). LSU has also sent a big list of many great players to the NFL, such as Joseph Addai (Indy Colts), Devery Henderson (N.O. Saints),  Justin Vincent (Pittsb. Steelers), Anthony "Bugga" McFarland (Indy Colts), Kevin Faulk (N.E. Patriots), and the list continutes.

Due to increased crowd noise and participation for night games, LSU tries every year to schedule the majority of their home games at night. This is what makes it so tough for teams to come to Baton Rouge to face the Tigers. It is so loud in Tiger Stadium during LSU games, that most teams consider LSU the single most difficult venue for opposing teams.

There are many great moments in LSU football history to remember. We have "The Earthquake Game" in 1988, "The Blue-Grass Miracle" in 2002, the 1959 Sugar Bowl (LSU's first national championship), Billy Cannon's Halloween Night Run in 1959, and the 2004 Sugar Bowl (LSU's second national championship) just to name a few of them. Another thing that can be certain is that there will be many more games like these in the future.

On Sept. 29, 2007 LSU traveled to New Orleans to take on in-state rival Tulane. This is LSU's traditional rival with the winner recieving the "Tiger Rag" (a satin trophy flag divided diagonally with the two school logos placed on opposite corners and the Louisiana State Seal in the center) at the end of each game, however the rivalry was diminished after Tulane left the SEC and placed less emphasis on athletics. The rivalry was renewed in 2006, and LSU is currently winning the series  67-22-7. On Sept. 29th, however, LSU and Tulane were playing for more than the traditional "Tiger Rag". Both teams wore special uniforms for the game. LSU's uniform included a purple jersey with a special patch of the brown pelican in the shape of a pheonix (both teams had this patch on their jersey), a white helment, and white pants. The special jerseys are to be auctioned off at the end of the season, with all the the money going towards helping New Orleans rebuild after Hurricane Katrina. The jerseys were supplied to the schools by Nike.
