Dr. Habib receives $600K NSF grant

Dr. Emad Habib from UL Lafayette Civil Engineering has received notification from NSF that a collaborative research proposal submitted earlier this year (Collaborative Research - TUES program: Development of Adaptable Web Modules to Stimulate Active Learning in Hydrology using Data and Model Simulations) has been funded.  This is a collaborative project between UL Lafayette, Columbia University and Utah State University. UL Lafayette is the lead institution and the UL Lafayette project team includes Civil Engineering faculty members Dr. Habib (PI) and Dr. Ehab Meselhe (CoPI), and Dr. Doug Williams (Co-PI) and Dr. Yuxin Ma (Co-PI) from UL Lafayette’s Center for Innovative Learning and Assessment Technologies.  The total funded amount is $600,000 and UL Lafayette’s researchers will receive ~ $400,000. According to the NSF notification, 295 proposals were submitted to this year’s TUES program and only 25 were funded.  This new project will build on an earlier pilot project that was completed by Dr. Habib and his team to develop a highly visual and interactive hydrologic observatory system (HydroViz) that integrates field data, remote sensing observations and computer simulations using state-of-the-art visualization and geospatial techniques (http://hydroviz.cilat.org/).
