Overview
These instructions will teach anyone who manages a website how to resize and optimize an image to put on the Internet, regardless of their technical knowledge. A widely available and free program will be used, named GIMP. This program can be installed and used on any operating system, including Windows XP, Windows Vista, Mac OSX, and Linux. The visual display of the program may vary slightly on different operating systems. These instructions provide the general steps used so that any operating system can be used.
Before You Start
Make sure you have access to the following resources:
- A computer. It can have any operating system.
- GIMP will be used. If it is not already installed on the computer, you will need access to the Internet to download the program.
- Large images or photographs to be resized. These can include high-resolution vector images or photographs from a digital camera.
- Each image should take no longer than 5 minutes to complete.
