Research Assistant for Virtual Welding Project
(Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Louisiana, Lafayette, May 2007-Present)

Responsibilities:

Background search of ongoing virtual welding projects : - This mainly includes searching the past and ongoing similar projects and finding out what is their     method of generating mathematical model or simulation. And after studying the drawbacks and positive points on those project building the new approach. Another aim of this part is to find out the available FEA software package that can create mathematical model for simulation.

Simulation of welding process and FEA analysis : - This part include actual work on FEA software and creating the welding simulation. The first part of which include analysis of plate subjected to Transient Heat Transfer using Algor. The heat source is selected in such way that the plate and heat source combine will simulate the part of welding process. Some of the result file of this part can be seen on this video.

Generation of a mathematical model of Transient Heat Transfer process and weld pool dimensions : - In this part the output file from Algor is obtained and converted in to the format required for creating virtual model using C++.  For initial trial actual dimensions of weld pool were calculated and was added to the converted file to get the initial virtual model.

Writing the simulation using VB6 which will calculate the internal nodal temperature for a plate at given boundary conditions and considering the transient heat transfer.
