     Betsy Miguez earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Limestone College in Gaffney, South Carolina, and a Master of Library Service degree from the Graduate School of Library Service at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. She is a member of the American Library Association (ALA), and she has been a member of the Louisiana Library Association (LLA) since 1982. She organized a panel discussion for the 1999 LLA Conference. Miguez served as secretary of LLA, 2005-06; chair of the Academic Section, 2008-2009; and chair of the 2009 LLA Meritorious Service Award Committee. Miguez also served on the 2009 ALA Newbery Award Committee.

     Miguez has worked in public, school, and academic libraries, and she has taught children’s literature courses at three colleges including the University of Louisiana at Lafayette. She has served on statewide planning committees for Year of the Young Reader, Toddler/Preschool Story Time Workshop, Louisiana Summer Reading Program, and Louisiana Young Readers' Choice Award. She presented the regional workshops on summer programming for the State Library of Louisiana, 1988-1990. She has presented programs on children's poetry and trends in Newbery Award books at state and regional conferences. Miguez has held the position of General Reference Librarian at Dupré Library since 2001.
