In December 2005, I will graduate from UL Lafayette with a major in Biology and a minor in Chemistry. After graduation, I plan to attend Louisiana State University in pursuit of both a Master's and Ph.D. degree in Genetics. I joined the UBM Project in February 2005.

Hi, my name is Sam Karhbet. I'm a senior mathematics major and chemistry minor studying under the direction of Dr. Azmy Ackleh and Dr. Jacoby Carter.  I joined the UBM project in the fall of 2003. The reason I decided to become a part of the team was because of my interests of math being applied in the natural sciences to tackle real-world problems. My contribution to the team involves programming in MATLAB and theoretical work based on PDE models.  I plan to graduate May 2006 and attend medical school at the LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

Biology

I am currently a senior majoring in Biology, minoring in Mathematics and Chemistry. After graduation in May 2006, I plan to attend LSUHSC Medical School in New Orleans, pursuing an M.D. in General Practice. I have joined the UBM project in August 2003 as a sophomore undergraduate. I enjoy both biology and math immensely and thus was thrilled at the invitation to join what I consider the "best of both worlds"--a research project that uses mathematical applications in biology. My contribution to the team includes my backgrounds in biology and STELLA programming.

Biology

I am graduating in Fall 2005 with an undergraduate degree in Biology and a minor degree in Chemistry.  I have recently joined the UBM project in February 2005.  I have enjoyed this project a lot because I could apply what I have learned in class to the real world. Moreover, I have learned many research techniques and mathematical applications. My contribution for this project includes creating this website and my advance knowledge in biology. After graduation, I plan to enroll in the Accelerated Nursing Program at UL Lafayette.

Mathematics

I joined the UBM project in the fall of 2003 to gain experience in interdisciplinary work with mathematics and biology. I graduated in December 2004 with a major in Mathematics, concentrating in Statistics, and a minor in English. My main contribution while working with the UBM project was Statistical Analysis on field data collected by the team. I was accepted to Louisiana State University Health and Science Center to study Biostatistics, but have deferred admission indefinitely. I will begin teaching high school mathematics at the Catholic High School in New Iberia, Louisiana, in the fall 2005.
