Mathematical Models

We derived a two-stage, age-structured Hyla cinerea model (continuous in both age and time). This models is described by two coupled PDEs. One PDE represents the dynamics of tadpoles which are structured by age. The second describes the dynamics of the adult frogs which are also structured by age. These PDE are discretized using finite differences and MATLAB is being used for program this numerical algorithm.

Also, we developed a user interface for this program so that anyone who wishes to use model may easily do so. The user can interact with the main program by modifying parameters in the model through a main screen. After the user finishes providing all the necessary parameters, he may plot the graphs of the equations to see the population's behavior versus time. The long-time behavior is displayed under three graphs: two of which show the behavior of each stage of the frog, and one showing the total population behavior.
